Journalism is still valuable despite of all the growth in social media

It takes commitment and courage to do what is necessary as a journalist without being outstanded by the trending social media.

Some think that the ever growing social media and fast growing technology is replacing journalism, well it does not. Journalists have a future in every way.

standard questions that journalist ask

Journalist are made to be loud in whatever the situation may be. It would not be nice if they become less noisy as it will mean they are not giving their work their all. Our communities will be left behind and their needs would still not be met. Journalists are there to build the communities in which they exist in. journalism is not endangered by all the social media that we come across with every day. I wonder if you would agree with me when I say journalism is not all about technology, but about gathering news fact and delivering news to the intended audience through the basis of technology.

The rise of social media cannot by any means replace the art of journalism as they serve different roles. Journalists use social media as their search tool, they gather interesting stories, pursue news sources and staying in touch, friend or follow influential community people. Their task is to report news to their audiences and clarify some rumours with readers, listeners and viewers. They ask interesting questions about things that are happening around clearly. That is purely journalism and social media has nothing to do with all those mentioned above things. I fail to understand as to how we can be tempted by social media to such an extent that we no longer need journalists.

social media is used to grow business, not to replace journalists

Social media is where people interact and share ideas amongst themselves, exchange information and ideas. We still need journalists in these times of advanced technology such as social media in order to use it as a platform to help journalists with technical skills, just to make life easier for them. Social medial will forever be growing since there is a huge growth in technology, so people please stop being threatened and festinated by this, because journalists are people we need right now to know the news. Even the technological devices has made internet to be available everywhere people are. Journalism is still meaningful regardless of the rise in social media. I personally see social media as an instrument of communication through social networks like twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.

Journalists are reliable citizens and they abide by morals and ethics of journalism .Social media is just a way of making new friendships and letting yourself be known in a way. Some people use social media to fulfill their social needs, whereas journalists are professionals in their field.

  2. I agree with you Bongi, but the issue is that social media is on a rapid rise. What I believe journalist should do as from this day age is to integrate their ideas on social media.

    1. Exactly, one is more unlikely to believe fully to credibility of the story that they heard on social media , for them to know its true they have to hear it being talked about on the news. We are more likely to believe prominent journalists than social media

    1. true that peace. I still don't find social media being here to replace journalism, I will believe that when they say journalism is no longer available in educational institutions due to the rise of social media.

  6. bongi I beg to differ with you when you say we are more likely to believe prominent journalists than social media because in social media we consume news that is being published by our friends, families and so on therefore I am likely to believe someone that I know and trust rather than a journalist who is desperate for a story

    1. not all the time kamo, we are talking social media here not social networks where we interact with friends and families only. I you telling that when you surf the net for news you here them from you relatives or friends? ,I doubt, and in regards to what you saying about hearing news from family members, I believe those people who tells you about the news have heard them from other people and those people hared them from journalists.period

    1. but still kea, I don't feel like journalists are threatened by social media, if that was the case , journalism would be banned by now. because people are journalists in their own. but that is not like that, we still need journalist in the field whether we like it or not.
